Aerial Photography Covering a Poconos Resort

Taking photos from a Cessna 172 can be a real challenge. The window is small, and a fixed wheel and a wing strut are potential obstacles. To get off a good photo, besides having good settings, you need to focus your efforts, with you camera out of the window, towards the rear of the plane, because that is where your unobstructed view of below is a available. It was a cloudy day, and it was getting dark, but good fortune allowed a few clouds to open up so I could catch this view of the resort from about 1500 feet. Recently, it should be noted, that I have been flying aerial photography missions in more modern Piper Cherokee aircraft as they have a special built side window that allows
for a long telephoto lens to go through, keeping the photographer warm and safe and getting a better, unobstructed view.

About Aerial Photography
Aerial photography is the technique of photographing a land area from an airplane. This can also be done from spacecraft, in which case, it is called satellite imagery. Aerial photography, along with satellite imagery, plays an important role in cartography, making maps and mapping. Aerial photography is used today as a source to collect a wide variety of information, including the location of transportation routes, roads, interstates, rivers, mountains streams, lakes, and the outlines of buildings and farm fields. On a computer, digital aerial images are displayed in response centers to pinpoint the location of emergency callers that use mobile phones, and in police cars, ambulances and fire trucks to analyze emergency situations. Although both maps and aerial photos provide a "bird's-eye" view of the land, earth, cities and towns, aerial photographs are NOT maps since they have a high degree of lens distortion and do not have a constant scale across the image. "Orthophotographs" are aerial photographs that have been corrected for these distortions, and therefore have the same properties of a road map or globe.
